GUITAR AND LUTE

Per Kjetil Farstad has been teaching the classical guitar since 1976 at Agder Conservatory of Music (now a part of the Institute of Classical Music and Music Pedagogy at the University of Agder, Faculty of Fine Arts).

He received his diploma as a teacher of the guitar from Agder Conservatory of Music in 1975, and his diploma of proficiency on classical guitar and 11-stringed alto guitar from Norwegian State Academy, Oslo in 1977. In 1978 he made his debut concert in Oslo, performing both on the lute and the classical guitar. His education also includes studies in public administration, cultural administration, education and sound engineering.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

He holds an Artistic Creative Doctorate from the University of Gothenburg, Department of Cultural Sciences in the field of classical guitar and lute.


He has released 18 solo CDs, given concerts in many countries, and written many articles and books.


He teaches historical instruments and plays six-,eight-, and eleven-stringed classical guitars. In addition he gives lectures and Master-Classes. He supervises both master and doctoral students.

From 2000 - 2004 he was elected Dean at Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Agder.

In addition to appearances in radio and television, he is much used as a studio musician, studio engineer, producer and arranger and has, over the years, participated in over 450 studio productions (LP/CD/MC).

In 2004 he was elected as a member of Agder Academy of Sciences and Letters, and from 2011-2018 he was a a member of the board at the same Academy.

In 2006 Farstad was awarded with "Sørlandets kompetansefonds forskningspris" for outstanding research in the field of guitar and lute.


In 2014 he was appointed Phil.dr. h.c (honoris causa) at Westfällische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Germany.​

Per Kjetil Farstad, Norwegian musician (born September 25, 1952), Fil. dr.,  professor emeritus of music at University of Agder, and honorary doctor Dr. Phil. H.C. at the Westfälliche Wilhelms- Universität Münster.

He has released several recordings and plays historical and modern plucked instruments, written many articles and books, and holds an Artistic Creative Doctorate from the University of Gothenburg, Department of Cultural Sciences in the field of the classical guitar and lute.
